My son joined a few groups related to his interests, history, historical reenactments, and things that most teenagers his age probably don't spend their weekends doing.

Last weekend, they had an event, so naturally Jay and I went with him.

I didn't think much about it. He's 16, but he's still my kid. Besides, if he's willing to spend an entire day talking about history, uniforms, and events from over a hundred years ago, the least I can do is show up.

When we got there, I realized most of the participants were young boys. For some reason, I expected to see other parents hanging around too. I didn't.

At one point, while I was taking their photos, one of them casually said, "Buti pa si Koko, supportive ang parents."

The comment caught me off guard. Not because I thought we were doing anything special. I thought we were just doing what parents do. Showing up, taking photos, asking if they've eaten, and pretending not to embarrass them in front of their friends. ๐Ÿ˜…

We don't have a lot of extra time. Work, family, cats, deadlines, PTA, and life keep us pretty occupied. But for the things that matter to our kids, we try to make time.

I hope our kids know that whatever path they choose in life, as long as it's good, honest, and doesn't involve me posting bail, their dad and I will always be in their corner.

Because sometimes support isn't about solving problems or giving advice. Sometimes it's just showing up.

And maybe years from now, our children won't remember every word we said. But they'll remember we were there.
